thyristor  four-layer (p-n-p-n) semiconductor device for high power switching (voltages over 10kV and currents in excess of 5000 A); also called semiconductor-controlled rectifier (SCR).
power device  semiconductor device designed to handle high voltages and currents.
SCR  Semiconductor-Controlled Rectifier, or thyristor.
