Term (Index) Definition
depletion   a region in semiconductor where the concentration of free carriers is much lower than in equillibrium.
accumulation  state of the semiconductor (usually semiconductor surface region in MOS devices) in which concentration of majority carriers is higher than concentration of dopant atoms.
inversion   a region at the surface the semiconductor in a MOS device where the concentration of minority carriers exceeds that of majority carriers (the situation where minority carrier concentration exceeds the doping concentration is called strong inversion).
