Term (Index) Definition
QD LED,  Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diode; low-cost, efficient, bright and color-saturated LEDs formed using semiconductor quantum dots; take advantage of high photoluminescence efficiency featured by several compound semiconductor quantum dots.
quantum dot  particle of semiconductor so small that its properties are no longer controlled by the laws of classical physics, but instead, are controlled by the laws of quantum physics - in such extremely confined geometries (essentially zero dimensional) free electrons, in contrast to 3D bulk semiconductor, interact with each other; as a result, semiconductors in the form of nanodots display eletronic/photonic properties different from those displayed by their bulk counterparts.
